We fly or drive to Pokhara, catching an early morning flight from Kathmandu. After a 45-minute flight to Pokhara, we drive to Darbang via Beni in a jeep, relishing the view of lush hills and snow-capped mountains. Following the flow of the Kali Gandaki River, we pass the town of Beni and then follow Myagdi Khola to arrive in Darbang
Trek to Naura (1570 m/4-5 hours) or Bagar (2080 m/6824 ft): 7-8 hours of walking
Leaving behind Sibang, we descend to Gatti Khola and then climb up to the village of Muri, where the Myagdi and Dhara rivers meet. We will cross the bridge over Dhola Khola and descend through the terraced farm fields and sparse settlements before arriving in Naura village.
Moving alongside the bank of Myagdi Khola through a grassy hill and a steep slope, we arrive in Bagar. We then follow the up-and-down trail to Dobhan. We continue to descend through a forest to Jyardan before climbing uphill to Lipshe. The route then enters the forested area before ascending to Dobhan.
We make our way to the Italian Camp. Today we pass through the forested trail filled with oaks, bamboo, and pinecone trees. As we move further and gain altitude, we can get the best view of Tukuche Peak, the Dhaulagiri Range, and other mountains from the Italian Base Camp.
We use this day for acclimatization. We can explore the base camp area or spend the day relishing the spectacular view of the surrounding mountains.
We leave Italian Base Camp and hike through a rocky area on a steep slope before crossing glacial moraines. We then reach a wide grassy area in a shallow ablation valley known as “the Japanese camp. walking on the glacier, sometimes on the lateral moraine and undulating surface of the glacier, on the way up to Dhaulagiri Base Camp. Upon reaching the Japanese camp, we can see the stunning view of all the peaks in the Dhaulagiri range, along with an amazing icefall descending from the Dhaulagiri and Tukuche Peak ridgelines.
We continue to trek on the north side of Chhondarban Glacier and gradually climb the steep hillside above the glacier. Following the turning trail across moraines, we make our way up to French Pass, which gives a view of the surrounding mountain ranges. We then gently descend through snow slopes to finally reach the Hidden Valley.
The views are the same as in earlier days. You’re walking along a flat path covered in ice and snow today. We begin our pre-climb training today after breakfast. Our guides will provide training on peak climbing techniques and the proper ways of using climbing gear such as the ice axe, climbing boots, crampons, harnesses, ascenders, etc. The training will also include using ropes to go up and down. We strongly believe that some training experience will increase your confidence and climbing skills. We can spend the rest of the day preparing for the next dayโs climb.
We woke up early today, around 2 to 4 a.m., and had breakfast before beginning our climb. We must reach the summit before noon because, in the afternoon, the strong winds in the Highlands might become a barrier to a successful summit. After enjoying the summit views and taking pictures, we descend to Thapa Peak Base Camp.
After experiencing the summit of Dhampus Peak, we will descend to Marpha (2650 m), which is also known as the apple garden. We will initiate our descent by the Kaligandaki riverbank and reach Marpha after an eight-hour hike. Today, en route, you pass Battase Danda. The views of Tukuche Peak, Thapa Peak, and the Annapurna Range mesmerize you.
Following our travel schedule, we will trek to Jomsom (2700 m), the most facilitated town in the entire Annapurna Region, as it will be our last day of the trek. We will enjoy a convenient overnight stay in Jomsom and prepare for our flight to Pokhara and Kathmandu the following day.
We fly back to Pokhara early in the morning, enjoying an aerial view of the mountains. Later in the afternoon, we explore the beautiful city of Pokhara, boating on Phewa Lake.
We catch an early morning flight to Kathmandu after our long mountain journey. After reaching Kathmandu, we can take a rest or do some souvenir shopping. If we want to explore any other areas of Kathmandu, our guides can help with both souvenir shopping and sightseeing.
