The Government of Nepal has announced an update to climbing permit fees for all high-altitude mountains ranging from 6,000 meters up to 8,848.86 meters, the height of Mount Everest. This revised regulation, approved by the Cabinet on January 8, 2025, will come into effect starting from the autumn season of 2025.

For mountains above 6,500 meters, climbing permits are issued exclusively through the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation. Individual climbers are not permitted to apply directly; all permits must be processed through a registered travel or trekking agency. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, climbers are required to complete a detailed bio-data form and submit it to their agency to initiate the permit process.

Securing a climbing permit is mandatory before embarking on any expedition. The expedition leader is responsible for collecting the permit and presenting it at each official checkpoint along the route. It is important to note that once paid, climbing permit fees are non-refundable.

Permit fees for peaks within this altitude range vary depending on the specific peak and the number of climbers in the expedition. Mandatory Permit Process

All mountaineering permits in Nepal must be processed through a registered travel or trekking company. Individual applications are not allowed. Before any expedition:
