โEverest Daughterโ
Perched majestically above Gorakshep and the Khumbu Glacier, Pumori (7,161m) is often called the โDaughter Peakโ of Everest. Located just 8 km west of the worldโs highest mountain, Pumori is a striking, pyramid-shaped peak renowned for its beauty, steep ridges, and technical climbing challenges.
For mountaineers seeking a serious Himalayan experience, Pumori offers an ideal training ground for Everest, Lhotse, or Makalu. Its combination of high-altitude exposure and technical terrain makes it both a rewarding and demanding objective.
Pumori was first successfully climbed in 1962 by Gerhard Lenser and his German expedition team. This ascent marked a significant milestone in Himalayan mountaineering, demonstrating that climbers could tackle technically demanding peaks at extreme altitudes. Since then, Pumori has remained a respected test of skill, endurance, and determination.
ย
Successfully summiting Pumori requires strong physical conditioning, high-altitude experience, and advanced mountaineering skills.
1: Previous experience on 6,000m+ Himalayan peaks such as Island Peak or Lobuche East
2: Proficiency in the use of ice axes, crampons, and fixed lines
3: Experience with high-altitude trekking and climbing
4: Ability to navigate steep snow, ice, and mixed rock sections
Pumori is not only a climbing expeditionโit is a crucial stepping stone for those preparing for the technical and physical demands of 8,000-meter peaks.
A: 1:1 (One guide per climber): Recommended for safety during summit push
B: 1:2 (One guide per two climbers): Only for experienced, well-acclimatised teams
For additional safety and emergency preparedness, we provide 1 emergency oxygen bottle (4L) per climber.
This is reserved for critical altitude-related situations at high camps or during a summit push.
Pumori is renowned as one of the most technically challenging 7,000m peaks in Nepal. Climbers encounter:
1: Steep ice/snow slopes (50ยฐโ60ยฐ)
2: Exposed ridges
3: Serac danger and avalanche-prone sections
4: Complex navigation between Camp 1 and Camp 2
5: This peak is recommended for climbers seeking a challenging Himalayan ascent with significant technical variety.

Camp-by-Camp Overview
Nestled near the iconic Kala Patthar, Pumori Base Camp serves as the expeditionโs hub and the gateway to the climb. Here, climbers carry out final gear checks, acclimatise to the high altitude, and receive expert guidance from Sherpa staff. The camp provides a safe, well-organised environment, complete with sturdy tents, communal dining areas, and communication facilities, ensuring climbers are fully prepared for the challenges ahead.
Perched on the lower slopes of Pumori, Camp 1 is the first major stop for acclimatisation. Climbers use this camp to recover after ascending from Base Camp and to ready themselves for the increasingly technical terrain. Accessing Camp 1 requires careful navigation across moderate snow slopes and crevassed areas, making focus and precision essential.
Camp 2 introduces climbers to the steeper, more demanding sections of the mountain, including icy faces and mixed rock terrain. This camp plays a critical role in building endurance and strength, providing climbers with the opportunity to adapt to high-altitude conditions and prepare for the upper reaches of the peak. The weather here can be severe, so proper preparation and caution are vital.
As the last stop before the summit attempt, Camp 3 lies on the upper slopes of Pumori. It offers climbers a final chance to rest, acclimatise further, and mentally prepare for the summit push. Reaching this camp involves negotiating narrow ridges, exposed slopes, and areas prone to avalanches, requiring experience, focus, and teamwork.
The summit of Pumori delivers unmatched panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and the greater Khumbu region. Climbers must tackle steep snow and ice slopes, sharp ridgelines, and technical mixed sections to reach the top. Extreme cold, strong winds, and thin air demand vigilance, physical endurance, and careful decision-making. The reward is a once-in-a-lifetime vantage point over some of the worldโs most majestic peaks.

๐:ย When you arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport, you must follow a few formal requirements to receive the Nepal entry visa at the immigration office. Our office representatives will welcome you outside the terminal hall and transfer you to the hotel. Brief you about tomorrowโs activities and collect any documents our office requires.
๐:ย On the second day, we will complete all necessary formalities, such as obtaining the required paperwork, permits, and other documentation needed for our expedition, and we will begin making preparations for it. There will be briefings covering every aspect of the expedition, including gear and equipment, trip duration, lodging options, base camp facilities, and other relevant details. This day also provides an opportunity to interact with and get to know your climbing companions and team members.โ
๐:ย We take an early morning flight to Lukla, where all Everest region treks begin. Once you arrive in Lukla, have breakfast at the lodge and prepare your luggage for the porters. The trek to Phakding begins with some ups and downs, along with numerous prayer rocks (Mani, in the local language). After settling into your lodge in Phakding, you can take a short walk to explore the village.
๐: Our trail passes through a pine forest as we continue walking north along the Benkar Valley. We cross the Dudh Koshi River and pass through the villages of Chumoa and Monjo before reaching the entrance of Everest National Park. After crossing a suspension bridge, we pass through Jorsale village and walk alongside the Dudh Koshi and Bhote Koshi rivers. Finally, we ascend a steep trail to reach Namche Bazaar, the largest town in the Everest region.
๐: We can explore Namche Bazaar, the main town of the Everest or Khumbu region. A hike to the Everest View Hotel offers breathtaking views of the sunrise over the Himalayas, including Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Kongde, and more. For those interested in a day hike, we can trek to Khumjung village. Additionally, we will visit the Hillary School and a monastery that houses a yetiโs scalp.
๐:ย ย The trek until Phunki Thanga is relatively easy. From there, we ascend towards Tengboche village, home to the renowned Tengboche Monastery, the largest monastery in the Everest region. The monastery offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Himalayas, including Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and Thamserku. If we arrive by 3 oโclock, we can witness a Buddhist religious ceremony.
๐: Our trail descends through lush forests of birch and rhododendron trees. From Tengboche, we walk downhill to Debuche and cross the Imja River to reach Pangboche. We take the upper Pangboche trail, admiring the Himalayan vista and the Pangboche Monastery. We continue our walk to the Imja Valley and Lobuche River before ascending to Dingboche.
๐: Spend a day in Dingboche to allow your body to adjust to the higher altitude. This rest day is essential for acclimatization, helping to prevent altitude sickness and ensuring youโre well-prepared for the more challenging hikes ahead. In the afternoon, consider a short hike to a higher elevation, such asย Nangkartsang Peak (5,083 m), to further support the acclimatization process and take in breathtaking mountain views. Afterward, return to Dingboche for a restful night, ready and recharged for the next stage of your trek.
๐:ย The trail from Dingboche (4,410m) to Lobuche (4,940m) takes you through alpine meadows and rocky terrain, offering stunning views of peaks like Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Everest, and Island Peak. The route begins with a steady ascent through open terrain and switchbacks, with rocky and dry conditions and sparse vegetation. After completing the steep section, youโll encounter the memorial stupas dedicated to climbers and trekkers who have lost their lives on Everest over the years. As you near Lobuche, the trail becomes less steep, leading to breathtaking views of the Khumbu Glacier and the surrounding snow-capped mountains.
๐:ย The trek from Lobuche to Pumori Base Camp is a beautiful and rewarding route, taking around 5-6 hours to complete. As you walk along the trail, you follow the iconic Khumbu Glacier, a key feature of the Everest region. Along the way, youโll be treated to breathtaking views of some of the most famous mountains in the world, including Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Ama Dablam.
๐:ย We start with a gentle trek around Base Camp or short hikes to 5,500m for altitude adjustment, then return to rest. The next day, we focus on training, learning snow and ice skills like using ice axes, crampons, and rope techniques. Afterwards, we take a rest day for acclimatisation to prevent overexertion. Guides conduct a full equipment check and make any necessary gear adjustments. Finally, during the acclimatisation rotation, we climb to Camp 1 (6,000m), spend a few hours there, and then descend back to Base Camp to recover and fully acclimatise.
๐:ย The climb from Camp 1 to Camp 2 follows steeper snow slopes and sections of mixed ice. Climbers move early to avoid soft afternoon snow. Fixed ropes assist on the steeper parts, and the route demands steady pacing and strong crampon technique. Camp 2 sits on a secure platform with excellent views and serves as the main acclimatisation and staging point for higher camps.
The route becomes steeper as you approach Camp I. The terrain is more technical, with sections of ice and snow, making it necessary to use crampons and ice axes. The climb is challenging but manageable with proper acclimatisation and equipment.
๐: The ascent to Camp 3 is more technical, involving sustained 40โ55ยฐ snow and ice slopes. Climbers use fixed lines throughout and must be mindful of exposure and weather changes. Camp 3 is established on the shoulder below the summit ridge and is used mainly for the summit push. The stay here is short due to cold and windy conditions.
๐:ย Summit Push begins early with a 4 am wake-up for breakfast. The climb to the summit (7,145m) takes 4-5 hours and involves a steep final section. After enjoying the views from the top, you’ll descend back to Camp I and then continue all the way back to Base Camp. The final push to the summit involves a demanding ascent, where climbers will navigate sections of ice and rock.
๐:ย We will descend back to Base Camp, where, as responsible travellers, we will take the necessary steps to clean up any waste around the camp. After ensuring the area is pristine, weโll prepare for our journey back to Kathmandu.
๐:ย To trek back to Pheriche from Everest Base Camp, you would follow a route similar to the one you took on the way to the Base Camp, but in reverse. This return trek typically takes around 7-9 hours, depending on your pace and any stops along the way.
๐:ย We lose approximately 2,000 feet in elevation today and walk on a trail with a lot of ups and downs. We descend through a hillside filled with rhododendron and juniper trees and cross a bridge over the Dudh Koshi River. We descend rapidly through a pine forest, where we can easily spot mountain goats, pheasants, and other wild animals and birds common to the area.
๐:ย We begin our trek to Lukla today on rocky terrain. It is mostly a downhill trek on a trail alongside the Dudh Koshi River. We cross several suspension bridges and pass by several monasteries and villages before reaching Lukla.
๐:ย We catch an early morning flight to Kathmandu after our long mountain journey. After reaching Kathmandu, we can take a rest or do some souvenir shopping. If we want to explore any other areas of Kathmandu, our guides can help with both souvenir shopping and sightseeing.
๐:ย Generally, you need 3 hours before your flight time to get to the Kathmandu airport in Nepal. So you transfer to the Kathmandu airport for your flight to your destination.
