The combination of Lobuche Peak climbing with Renjo La Pass and Cho La Pass offers one of the most complete, scenic, and adventurous journeys in the Himalayasโcapturing the spirit and grandeur of the Everest region in a single, expertly crafted expedition. This two-pass itinerary ensures gradual acclimatisation before the climb, blending challenging high-altitude trekking with strategic rest days. Crossing Renjo La (5,360 m) and Cho La (5,420 m) before reaching Lobuche Peak Base Camp allows your body to adapt to the altitude, increasing safety and summit success. For those seeking to go beyond ordinary trekking routes and immerse themselves in the wild beauty and cultural richness of the Khumbu, this itinerary delivers an unparalleled experience of dramatic landscapes, high passes, glacial lakes, and the Lobuche summit.
ย
Your journey begins with an awe-inspiring mountain flight to Lukla (2,860m), the gateway to Everest. From here, the trail gradually ascends through classic Sherpa settlements like Phakding and Namche Bazaar, where colourful markets, bustling teahouses, and friendly locals welcome trekkers into the heart of the Khumbu. Namche, the largest village in the region, offers stunning views of Kongde Ri and Thamserku, and serves as the perfect place for acclimatisation and exploration.
From Namche, the trail diverts from the traditional Everest Base Camp route and veers northwest toward Thame and the Gokyo Valley. This lesser-trodden route introduces trekkers to the quieter, more pristine corners of the region. As you ascend to Lungden, the landscape turns wild and remote, preparing you for your first major pass crossing.
Crossing Renjo La Pass (5,360m) and Cho La Pass (5,420m) en route to Lobuche is challenging but manageable for fit trekkers. The Renjo La path is steep and may have snow and ice, offering stunning views of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and the Gokyo Lakes, with an optional hike to Gokyo Ri (5,357m) for a panoramic view. Cho La is steeper and often icy, connecting Gokyo Valley to the Everest Base Camp trail. The descent leads to Dzongla and Lobuche (4,940m), the base for climbing Lobuche East Peak (6,119m).
Lobuche East has rocky sections and is mostly snow and ice near the summit. The climb can be steep and icy, requiring crampons, an ice axe, and solid mountaineering skills. The weather is cold and unpredictable, so proper gear and experience are essential.
Along the way, immerse yourself in Sherpa culture through visits to monasteries in Tengboche and Thame, stays in traditional teahouses, and encounters with yak caravans. Experience daily life in high-altitude villages, the sound of Buddhist prayers carried by the wind, and the warm hospitality of the Himalayas.
