After breakfast, our staff will pick you up at 07:00 AM for the drive to Besisahar (approx. 185 km). Enjoy scenic views of villages, farmlands, rivers, and the Himalayan foothills along the way.
Himlung Himal, rising majestically to 7,126 meters (23,379 feet), is a hidden gem in the remote Nar-Phu region of northwestern Nepal, near the Tibetan border. Tucked between the Annapurna and Manaslu ranges, this secluded peak remained largely untouched until the early 1990s. Today, Himlung Himal offers an enticing combination of adventure, serenity, and cultural immersion, making it a top choice for climbers seeking a less-travelled 7,000-meter Himalayan summit.
The summit of Himlung Himal was first conquered in 1992 by a Japanese expedition team. Since then, it has steadily attracted mountaineers drawn to its relatively safer routes and lower avalanche risks compared to other Himalayan giants, offering an ideal stepping stone to higher altitudes.
Himlung Himal is best suited for climbers who have summited 6,000-meter peaks like Island Peak or Mera Peak and are ready for a 7,000-meter challenge. Essential skills include glacier travel, fixed rope use, and high-altitude acclimatisation. Though not highly technical, the climb requires physical endurance, mental resilience, and basic mountaineering experience.
Ensuring safety and efficiency is critical for summit success. The recommended guide-to-client ratios are:
A: 1:1 ratio โ Ideal for climbers with less experience, maximising safety on summit day.
B: 1:2 ratio โ Suitable for well-acclimatised and experienced climbers.
One emergency oxygen bottle (4 litres) per climber is recommended for critical situations during summit attempts and high campย stays. This ensures a safety buffer in case of altitude-related challenges.
Himlung Himal is often described as one of the most accessible 7,000-meter peaks in Nepal, yet it is by no means easy. Climbers will navigate:
A: Long glacier stretches
B: Moderate snow and ice slopes
C: Steep sections secured with fixed ropes
The climb requires establishing three high camps above Base Camp, demanding both endurance and careful acclimatisation. Weather, altitude, and cold temperatures are the primary challenges, making Himlung Himal an ideal peak for climbers preparing for higher Himalayan expeditions.

Adventurers arrive in Kathmandu, Nepal, to obtain the necessary permits and complete the required expedition formalities. From Kathmandu, the journey continues with a drive to Besisahar, followed by Dharapani, and then trekking along scenic trails to Himlung Base Camp. This phase allows climbers to settle in, organise equipment, and mentally prepare for the ascent ahead.
Upon arrival at Base Camp, the team establishes tents, prepares supplies, and initiates acclimatisation routines. Climbers start with gentle hikes to nearby elevations, gradually adapting to higher altitudes and gaining confidence for the challenging terrain ahead.
This stage involves strategic rotations between Base Camp and higher camps to build altitude tolerance. Climbers familiarise themselves with the mountainโs features, practice using ropes and ice axes, and gear up for the final summit push.
The summit attempt is carefully timed to coincide with a short but favourable weather window. Climbers set out, often in the early hours, aiming to reach the 7,126-meter summit during optimal conditions.
After celebrating the summit, the team descends systematically to Base Camp, then retraces their journey back to Kathmandu. This marks the conclusion of a safe and successful Himlung Himal expedition.
Climbers land in Kathmandu to finalise permits and administrative tasks before heading to Himlung Base Camp via Besisahar and Dharapani. This is the time for team introductions, gear checks, and planning the ascent strategy.
The expedition team establishes Base Camp and begins acclimatisation. Sherpa guides ascend to higher camps in advance to set up tents and ferry supplies, ensuring climbers can focus solely on adjusting to altitude.
Multiple rotations between Base Camp and higher camps help climbers gradually adapt to the altitude. Technical training and summit preparations are completed during this period to ensure safety and efficiency.
Summit bids are executed during favourable weather windows in late October, providing climbers with optimal conditions for a successful ascent.
After reaching the summit, the expedition team descends safely to Base Camp and returns to Kathmandu, concluding an unforgettable Himalayan adventure.
Climbing Himlung Himal (7,126 meters / 23,386 feet) requires a structured approach with multiple camps to ensure acclimatisation and safety:
Situated in a spacious valley just below the snowline, Base Camp provides a secure area to set up tents, perform acclimatisation hikes, and prepare climbing equipment. The surroundings boast breathtaking views of glaciers and neighbouring peaks.
A gradual ascent over rocky terrain and moraines leads to Camp I. While not technically difficult, this leg demands physical endurance. Climbers carry essential supplies here during their first rotation.
Camp II sits at the base of the Himlung icefall, marking the start of steeper, more technical sections. Fixed ropes are used on icy slopes, and the camp serves as a transitional stop before higher altitude challenges.
The final high camp before the summit, Camp III, is positioned on steep snow slopes below the summit ridge. Climbers typically begin their summit push around midnight from this camp, aiming for the peak during the most favourable conditions.
These camps are designed to facilitate a systematic, safe ascent, allowing climbers to rest, acclimatise, and strategically prepare for the ultimate Himlung Himal summit experience.

In the morning, we embark on an exciting jeep drive along a scenic off-road route through charming villages in the Himalayan foothills. The journey follows a well-maintained road, offering beautiful views of traditional villages, terraced farmlands, and the majestic Annapurna range.
We continue driving alongside the Marsyangdi River to reach Koto, a picturesque village located at the junction where the famous Annapurna Circuit trekking trail branches off toward the remote Nar Phu Valley trekking route.
We begin our trek from Koto after crossing the suspension bridge over the Marsyangdi River. After breakfast, we enjoy breathtaking views of Annapurna II and the snow-covered upper peaks from the lodge.
After walking for about 40 minutes to an hour, we reach another suspension bridge, where you may see donkeys carrying supplies along the trail. From here, the Nar Phu trekking route leads us through peaceful pine forests, with massive boulders scattered along the path and the soothing sound of the Nar Phu River flowing beside us.
Trek from Meta to Kyang follows a scenic trail through pine forests and rocky terrain, with the Nar Phu River flowing alongside. Enjoy views of the surrounding peaks as you gradually ascend to Kyang for the overnight stay.
The trek passes through a scenic valley with colorful Tibetan Buddhist chortens and crosses suspension bridges over rivers like the Phu Khola. Arrive in Kyang, a village known for sheltering Khampa refugees.
In the afternoon, continue along a well-maintained trail to Phu Gaon, a culturally rich village where you can experience traditional Tibetan Buddhist life.
Spend the day resting and acclimatizing in Phu. Take short walks around the village to adjust to the altitude while enjoying panoramic views of the surrounding peaks and the unique Tibetan Buddhist culture.
Time at Himlung Himal Base Camp is essential for acclimatization. Spending several nights at this altitude helps your body adjust to thinner air, preparing you for the ascent. A structured schedule ensures effective adaptation.
Guides provide training on fixed ropes, technical sections, and proper use of climbing gear and clothing. These sessions refine your skills, boost confidence, and get you ready for the summit push.
Camp One, located on a moraine plateau above Base Camp, is typically reached in 4โ6 hours. This section involves steeper slopes and higher altitudes, demanding both good physical fitness and mental focus.
The route traverses a rugged glacier, where marked bamboo poles indicate the path, and fixed ropes provide safe passage across crevasses and other hazards near Camp One.
Camp One serves as a stopover for two nights, allowing climbers to acclimatize further to the increasing altitude and prepare for the push to higher camps.
Camp Two is typically established after ascending a steep slope above a large plateau, taking approximately 4โ6 hours from Camp One. It serves as a safe resting point for climbers as they prepare for the next stage of the expedition.
The ascent to Camp Two relies on fixed ropes, securely anchored to ensure safe passage through steep and challenging sections.
Due to its location, Camp Two can experience heavy snow accumulation, making proper gear and techniques essential for safe navigation.
Today, we will ascend to Camp Three (6,250โ6,375โฏm), just below the col, using fixed ropes. This climb is an important part of acclimatization, helping your body adjust to higher altitude.
After a short stay at Camp Three, we return to Base Camp to rest and recover, allowing your body to adapt before the summit push.
These acclimatization cycles gradually expose your body to higher elevations, significantly increasing your chances of a successful summit.
These days at Himlung Base Camp give your body time to recover from previous climbs and build strength for the upcoming summit push.
Expedition leaders will review the summit itinerary, daily routines, safety protocols, and emergency procedures.
All climbing gear will be thoroughly inspected, with any necessary repairs or adjustments made to ensure optimal performance.
The team will monitor conditions closely, adjusting the summit plan as needed to prioritize both safety and success.
Having previously acclimatized and climbed through this section, todayโs ascent to Camp Two may feel more efficient than your initial climb.
The route continues across the glacier, with challenges including crevasses and steeper inclines. Your enhanced fitness and improved skills will help you navigate these obstacles safely and confidently.
Upon arrival at Camp Two, youโll be welcomed by the familiar surroundings of this high-altitude camp. Here, you can rest, rehydrate, and enjoy a hearty dinner prepared by our skilled expedition cooksโwell-deserved after a demanding day on the mountain.
Located on the upper slopes of Himlung Himal, Camp 3 sits above Camp 2 along the summit route. The terrain here is steeper, featuring snow-covered and mixed (rock and ice) sections, marking a more challenging stage of the climb.
Today marks the summit push to Himlung Himal at 7,126 meters (23,377 ft). Weโll start before dawn to reach the peak in time for sunrise, offering breathtaking views of the Himalayas.
Time at the summit will be limited to 15โ20 minutes for photos and celebration due to extreme conditions. Afterwards, weโll descend safely to either Camp Two (6,000 m/19,685 ft) or Camp One (5,450 m/17,880 ft) for the night, depending on weather and energy levels.
Today we descend from the high camps back to Himlung Himal Base Camp. Our guides will ensure a safe and controlled route.
Before leaving, weโll clean up the camps to minimize environmental impact. At Base Camp, the day will focus on packing, completing expedition tasks, and preparing logistics for the return journey to Kathmandu.
Retrace your steps back to the charming village of Phu, After the experience of climbing a 7,000-meter mountain and all the experiences along the way, we came away with many memories.
We return to Meta by the same route. Weโll be descending for the most part, so itโll be faster than before.
Our expedition concludes today with a scenic drive from Koto to Besi Sahar. Along the winding mountain roads, we say goodbye to the Himalayan villages and stunning landscapes. Upon arrival in Besi Sahar, weโll check into a hotel to rest for the evening.
Today we drive from Besi Sahar back to Kathmandu (1,350โฏm / 4,429โฏft), completing the journey and returning to the city after our Himalayan adventure.
Generally, you need 3 hours before your flight time to get to the Kathmandu airport in Nepal. So, you transfer to the Kathmandu airport for your flight to your destination.
